In many cases, the requirements of ELT antennas can be met with a simple whip antenna. For applications where and optimization of the link budget is a requirement, a circularly polarized antenna like a quadrifilar antenna is an excellent candidate. Quadrifilar antennas exhibit a near ideal hemispherical radiation pattern with excellent axial ratio down to the horizon.
