This unit is designed for space and near-space applications where data, ranging and Doppler functionality are desired. The present design is compatible with the Deep Space Network’s forward and reverse link frequencies. The radio is based on an FPGA processor that permits programmable functionality using software-defined radio methods. Other options are possible, such as use of local ultra-stable clocks for one-way ranging and Doppler as well as added Ka band reverse link channel.
